Things To Do

River Edge Mansion is halfway between New York's beautiful Finger Lakes and the amazing Thousand Islands and Seaway Trail. Vacation here and visit some of the most scenic areas of the State.

River Edge Mansion
Cruise the Erie Canal on our River Boat

Enjoy the magical late afternoon and early evening rays of sun on the Oneida River aboard our canal boat "ELLA C". Cross a trip through a lock on the Erie Canal off your bucket list! Captain Steve will keep you laughing and your glass full as he skillfully navigates the still waters. Ask about a dinner cruise! We might start with grilled shrimp kabobs, a lovely Caprice or Caesar salad, salmon, chicken or steak grilled to your order, and Central New York’s famous salt potatoes along with locally grown vegetables. We'll finish up with desert in the gazebo, or you can take it to your room to savor later.

Kayaking

Kayaks are available for rent just down the road in Phoenix, or you may borrow ours. Try out our kayak launch! You'll see geese and their many goslings, ducks, blue heron, fox, beaver and even bald eagles on the Oneida River.

Birding
River Edge Mansion

For thousands of years, migrating hawks, eagles, raptors and songbirds have flocked along the southeastern shores of Lake Ontario, only a short drive from the Mansion. These migratory routes provide ample opportunities for birders to witness unusual or record sightings. Many species of birds can be found along the Oswego Canal, including the elusive Osprey and Bald Eagle. Derby Hill, designated a New York State "Important Bird Area", counted a world-record 19,531 red-tailed hawks. The Montezuma Wildlife Refuge and Montezuma Audubon Center are less than an hour away.

Snowmobiling

Bring your snow machine! A trail runs by River Edge Mansion, connecting to miles and miles of trails. Thanks to the area's lake effect snowfall and expansive trail system of over 360 miles of groomed paths, Oswego County offers the ideal conditions for optimum snowmobiling.

Wine and Cheese Trails

It's a New York State of Wine…wineries, breweries, distilleries and meaderies, we have them all in Central New York. With more than 100 wineries in the Finger Lakes, it would take a week to visit them all, but you can take a day and visit one of the wine trails; the Keuka Lake Wine Trail, the Canandaigua Wine Trail, or our favorite, the Seneca Lake Wine Trail. The Finger Lakes is home to a new cheese trail to accompany all that wine. Or go north and try the Thousand Island Wine Trail. Pack the B&B with your friends and take a limo to the wine tastings ... we'll be happy to make you a reservation.

Did you know you can make your own wine ... a short drive away is Lakeland Winery. At this casual winery you will learn about wine making through the ages, be provided with several different wine to taste before selecting the wine you will make. Seven or eight weeks later, you'll come back to cork, bottle and label your wine to take home. Each batch makes 29 - 30 bottles of one style.

Fishing

River Edge Mansion, right on the shores of the Oneida River part of the Erie Canal, is only minutes away from Oneida Lake, Onondaga Lake and Lake Ontario. These bodies of water offer the finest fishing in New York State. Fish from our dock or from our river boat "ELLA C".

River Edge Mansion

Shopping is Plentiful

River Edge Mansion is a mile and a half from the Great Northern Mall and 15 minutes from the Carousel Center, soon to be Destiny Mall, in Syracuse. The Waterloo Premium Outlets, with over 100 outlet stores is less than an hour away. Antique shops abound in Syracuse and the surrounding areas. (located about 15 minutes from Destiny USA!)

New York State Fairgrounds

There's more than the State Fair at the Fairgrounds. The Fairground hosts over 100 incredible non-fair events throughout the year such as the Syracuse Nationals, the Salt City Antique Show, and RV, train and boat shows.

Walking and Biking

The roads surrounding the Mansion and along the canal offer perfect biking opportunities. The Oswego County recreation trail offers miles of hiking on a reclaimed abandoned railroad bed that winds through picturesque Central New York farmland, fields and villages.
